Fundraising Appeal
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As many of you may be aware, the Waubra Foundation has continued its work in the field of adverse health effects from industrial noise for nearly 8 years, and during that time we have been under constant attack from those whose interests are threatened by our work. All our work is pro bono.
We have helped many noise sensitized people and citizens concerned about a range of sources of industrial noise pollution, in a variety of ways including:
- provision of information and support, both upon direct request, and via our website;
- facilitating access to trusted acoustic consultants for accurate independent noise measurement;
- funding the development of more affordable full spectrum acoustic instrumentation, so that people can measure and record the sound in their environment;
- strong advocacy in a variety of fora including senate inquiries, courts and planning tribunals for both research, and improved regulations to better protect health and human rights.
The need for improved regulations, and research, as well as the fact that there is a plausible pathway to disease from wind turbine noise, via “annoyance” and sleep disturbance, was accepted by Justice White and Deputy President Bean in the recent Australian AAT decision. [1]
We have funded field research at a variety of industrial noise locations. Some of that field research has resulted in groundbreaking data showing physiological evidence of the startle reflex effect,[2] so crucial to understanding why people become progressively sensitized to pulsing, dynamically amplitude modulated sound with ongoing exposure. Other recent research presented by Steven Cooper in New Orleans on 7th December, 2017 has shown that noise sensitized people are indeed reacting to inaudible, amplitude modulated, low frequency noise.
We now need your generosity to fund the next stage of the research, which is to demonstrate that a direct causal relationship does exist between the sound stimulus, and the physiological stress response (“annoyance”), especially when people have become sensitized to the pulsing sound. The Foundation also needs funds to keep going, and to update our website.
Please help us to continue our work in 2018 by donating to the Foundation. All donations are welcomed. For details, please go to http://waubrafoundation.org.au/about/donate/
