Vale Peter Mitchell, AM Founder of the Waubra Foundation

The directors of the Waubra Foundation are deeply saddened by the passing of Peter Mitchell, AM, the founder and former Chairman of the Foundation. We extend our condolences to his family and his many friends.

Peter had a long history of community contribution, including at various times chairing The Queen’s Trust for Young Australians, being long-time President of the National Stroke Foundation, a board member of World Wildlife Fund and Patron of the Children First Foundation.

He was a man of compassion, conscience and courage. When he became aware of the harm to health being caused to Australians from industrial wind turbines, he established the Waubra Foundation to research the effects, to disseminate research results and to support individuals and families being threatened and harmed by placement of wind turbines without proper analysis of the consequences.

His work, with Sarah Laurie, the Foundation’s CEO, was an important factor in the establishment of ongoing research projects into the impact of wind turbine noise, funded by the National Health & Medical Research Council.

Peter not only worked through the Foundation but provided personal support to many of those affected by wind turbines placed near their homes. He continued that support even after stepping down as the Foundation’s Chairman.

He will be sadly missed by many and will not be forgotten.
